Jungal Mahal Mahila Tasar Chasir Dal Community Trust, Shyamnagar, Binpur-2, Jhargram, West Bengal : Jungal Mahal Mahila Tasar Chasir Dal Community Trust is a Tasar rearer’s and seed producer’s community organization registered as “Trust” under Indian Trusts Act. The Trust was registered on 2nd August, 2017 and presently provides services by the means of quality eggs and technical knowhow to 2,068 families spread across Jhargram, Bankura and Purulia districts of West Bengal. The Trust along with providing critical services also help and nurture 67 Tasar Vikas Samitis (Tasar based activity groups at village nodes) and together they had made an turnover of 3.5 Crore in 2017-18.

Singhbhum Sarjombah Tasar Vikas Trust, Kundiamarcha, Kuchai, S.Kharsawan, Jharkhand : Singhbhum Sarjombah Tasar Vikas Trust is a Tasar rearer’s and seed producer’s community organization registered as “Trust” under Indian Trusts Act. The Trust was registered on 1st of December, 2017 and presently provides services by the means of quality eggs and technical knowhow to 1,768 families are spread across West Singhbhum, East Singhbhum and Saraikella-Kharsawan districts of Jharkhand. The Trust has a Basic Seed Production Unit (Units used for producing breeder and foundation seeds, called Nucleus DFL) and 42 Small Grainages (Units used for producing commercial seeds).

The units together produces 0.30 Lakhs of nucleus DFL (Disease Free Layings, Examined quality eggs) and 2.83 Lakhs of commercial DFL’s in 2017-18. The support it provided to the Rearer’s helped them to produce 11 lakh pieces of Seed Cocoon and 67 Lakh pieces of commercial cocoon. The Trust along with providing critical services also help and nurture 58 Tasar Vikas Samitis (Tasar based activity groups at village nodes) and together they had made an turnover of 2.1 Crore in 2017-18.

Aven Cooperative, Kathikund, Dumka, Jharkhand : Aven Tasar Rearers primary cooperative society is an affiliate of TDF registered at Dumka in year 2012 is supporting with quality service delivery and input supply in tasar sericulture activities to 2,313 rearers in Kathikund, Shilakripara, Gopikandar, Raneswar and Masalia blocks of Dumka district in Jharkhand. Aven cooperative is having its 3 basic seed production units with capacity of 1.5 lakh basic seed DFLs in a year, which is more than sufficient to cater the seed DFL requirement of its own operational area supplying the seed DFLs to other rearer’s within the state and outside the state as well. To ensure the quality commercial DFLs to the rearer’s, it is also engaged in commercial tasar seed production business and produced 3.7 lakh commercial DFLs in its own seed production centers along with its associated village level seed production units. With its annual turnover of around 118.1 lakh it is thriving towards a self-sustainable institution over the years.

Vanwashi Tasar Rearers primary cooperative society, Banka, Bihar : Another such affiliate is Vanwashi Tasar rearers primary cooperative society is in Banka district of Bihar incorporated in the year 2010. Vanwashi is the seed hub for the entire tasar growing areas in the region with a vast basic seed production capacity of around 3.0 lakh basic seed production in its 5 multi storied basic seed production units. Vast plantation raised on the privately owned barren plots in its command area over the years makes it the most successful seed zone in the country. Vanwashi is supporting with both basic seed and nucleus seeds to many other areas for further multiplication and enhancement of tasar production. Vanwashi also produces around 3 lakhs commercial DFLs in its operational area in its own production units and through the village level seed production centers associated with it to cater the commercial DFL requirement of 1,955 rearer’s directly associated with it. Vanwashi is also supporting the rearer’s in cocoon marketing through its cocoon bank operations. With a gross turnover of around 172.76 lakhs it is now a self-sustained institution with replicable model of quality seed production.

Ekta Tasar Vikash Trust, Godda, Jharkhand : Ekta Tasar Vikash Trust operating in Godda district of Jharkhand is another affiliate which is supporting 2,522 tasar sericulture practicing families in Sundarpahari, Boarijore, Poraiyahat blocks of Godda district and Littipara bock of Pakur district in Jharkhand. Ekta Trust though registered formally in year 2017 is functional since 2011 through its informal village based small producers’ collectives. Ekta Trust is also having three basic seed grainages with a preservation capacity of 4.5 lakh seed cocoons to produce 1.2 lakh basic seed DFLs which is more than sufficient for its own requirement. Ekta is producing around 3.18 lakh commercial DFLs through its own infrastructure and the seed production units operated under its umbrella at village level. These quality seeds have not only increased the production level but also created an interest among the community for conserving the forest to take up silk rearing in them. In Ektas operational areas more than 2,000 acre of tasar host tree plantation is raised in recent 5-6 years, through PRADAN & TDF. With the maturing of these plantations in coming 2 to 3 years Ekta Trusts seed crop rearing potential is going to be multifold and its would one of the potential seed cocoon producers in the country. Presently Ekta trust is having annual gross turnover of around 91 lakhs from its seed production business.
